Welcome to U Career Success!
We are dedicated to empowering every U student to create their future career success.
We believe in U students. We know U students are driven, talented, and capable of changing the world. Our mission is to empower every U student to reach their full potential. We’re not content to sit back and wait for opportunities to come to our students, so we take a different approach than most career services. Our unique strategy revolves around two key elements: our “no student left behind” mantra and our commitment to community partners.
No Student Left Behind
With expert, personalized coaching, we guide students through every step of the career journey, from exploration and personal branding, through resume building and applying, to interviewing and salary negotiation. We set every student on a path to success by helping them to explore and develop their individual strengths and then learn how to articulate them when speaking to others. But these are just the basics. What makes us especially unique is that we actively review the participation of enrolled students. When we learn of students who have not yet accessed our services, we reach out and invite them in.
Commitment to Community Partners
While Career Coaches guide students, our Relationship Managers give the same individual support and attention to corporate and community partners. We collaborate to understand their business, culture, and hiring needs then help them navigate and leverage a range of engagement opportunities at the U. Once employers get a taste of U talent, they want more. In the end, employers get the top talent they need while our students uncover more and better opportunities.
Behind the scenes, career coaches collaborate with relationship managers to match the right student with the optimal job. Students and organizations alike benefit not only from the guidance of our experts, but from the connections in the networks we create and promote.
History and Future of U Career Success
President Taylor Randall launched the Career Success Presidential Initiative in January 2023. Uniting the strengths of the former Career and Professional Development Center with Business Career Services in the David Eccles School of Business and adding a vision to expand and improve services campus-wide, we set out to become the number one career services offering in the university landscape.
The model of Business Career Services proved that we achieve the most success when we partner closely with college leadership, advisors, and faculty. In 2023 we added deeper collaborations with the College of Science, Department of Communication, Department of Film & Media Arts, and the School for Cultural and Social Transformation. As of April 2024, we have partnerships with:
- School of Business
- College of Humanities
- College of Fine Arts
- College of Science
- School for Cultural and Social Transformation
- Department of Chemical Engineering in the College of Engineering
- Departments of Political Science, Sociology, and Criminology in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
By 2030 we plan to have strong partnerships with every college on campus, enabling us to maximize our impact for every U student.
Have questions?
The Student Success Team
U students have a team of experts to help them achieve academic, professional, and personal success. U Career Success is a critical part of this support system.
Career Coach
Students should meet with their career coach early and often to build a personal career plan with confidence. Explore options, create a resume, find jobs and internships, prep for interviews, connect with employers, and more.
Academic Advisor
College is about choices. Advisors help students make them. Academic advisors guide students through exploring majors/minors, developing a degree plan, choosing appropriate classes, and learning about opportunities within their college/department.
Student Success Coach
Students can call on their success coach for holistic support, to identify your goals, connect with resources across campus, foster personal growth, and more. If not sure where to start, reach out to a success coach.
