We center around personalized coaching, tailored to each student’s unique needs, strengths, and goals. Every student is paired with a dedicated career coach who provides guidance every step of the way, from career exploration, personal branding and internship applications to mock interviews and job offer negotiation. In addition to coaching, we offer practical resources at no cost. Students schedule sessions for professional headshots, perfect for their LinkedIn pages or other professional profiles. We also provide fully-equipped video studios for online interviews. And for any occasion, our Career Closet is stocked with a variety of professional attire available for borrowing.

Throughout the semester, students can connect with potential employers and enhance their career readiness by attending a variety of events including large-scale career fairs, college-specific networking expos, workshop series, informational sessions, employer panels, and much more.

To schedule appointments with a career coach, students visit www.careers.utah.edu/career-coaches. There, they can search for the coach best suited for them by entering their college or major. If they haven’t declared a major yet, “undeclared” will connect them with a generalist coach.

Please note that career coach appointments are exclusive to currently enrolled University of Utah students. Incoming students will be able to schedule appointments once the school semester begins. However, incoming students may access peer coaches, who are available for career exploration, resume writing, and cover letter assistance. Peer coach appointments are scheduled here.

We’re well versed in the resources available and can guide students through the process. Students can easily access online job board and job search resources through Handshake, a platform specifically designed for college students. Every U student already has an account with Handshake, which just needs to be activated to provide full access. Handshake stands out as the premier online job board for college students, as the employers who list positions on Handshake are vetted through our office. This ensures that the jobs posted are targeted specifically to college students.

To activate their Handshake account, students simply visit https://utah.joinhandshake.com/login, select University of Utah as their school, and login using their UID.

At U Career Success, all our services are provided completely free of charge to current students and alumni for up to two years after graduation. With the average cost of career coaching off-campus at $200+ per hour, taking advantage of these services one of the smartest ways students can maximize the value of their degree.

Yes! Finding a part-time job to balance with school is often necessary for financial stability and becomes a key component of professional development. At U Career Success, we’re dedicated to supporting students in navigating this journey. We understand the importance of finding work that fits a student’s unique circumstances. During the first days of each Fall and Spring semester, we host a Part-Time & On-Campus Career Fair to connect students to options that work around collegiate schedules.

Absolutely! Gaining practical experience during college not only enhances a student’s skills, but also makes them more competitive in the job market. We are experts at assisting students in finding valuable opportunities for experiential learning, including internships, employer research, special projects and more.

We offer personalized guidance on interview do’s and don’ts, helping students master the best practices to make a positive impression. Our coaches conduct mock interviews, both in-person and virtually, allowing students to practice their skills in a supportive environment. After each practice session, we provide constructive feedback to help students improve their interview techniques until they feel confident and comfortable.

Absolutely! We provide comprehensive assistance with resume and cover letter writing. Our career coaches offer personalized one-on-one sessions with students to craft resumes that effectively showcase their skills, experiences, and accomplishments.

We understand that scheduling appointments may be challenging at times, so we’ve set up a process for those needing quick feedback on their resumes. By emailing resumes to resumereviews@careers.utah.edu, students receive timely and valuable feedback from Peer Coaches.
