Home Call for Entries: Campus Landscape Architecture Project

Reimagine an inviting landscaped space on the west side of the Garff Building. See your design come to life and win a $1,000 prize!

We are seeking student entries to design a replacement for the current triangle of wood chips with a beautiful four-season landscape design.

The winning individual or team will consult with the campus grounds team to implement their design. A plaque noting the winner/s names will be featured on the site.

Judging Criteria

  • Beauty throughout the four seasons
  • Adaptation to the desert ecosystem
  • Feasibility of executing the design, including expense to install and maintain

Judges

  • College of Architecture + Planning Faculty will judge the entries

Entry Requirements

The call is open to all currently enrolled students at the University of Utah from any major or program. Collaborative partnerships of up to 3 current students may submit a single entry. To be considered, entries should include:

  • Page 1: Give your project a name. List information for the individual or group members submitting. Include name, UID, best email address to contact, major/program, intended graduation month and year, career interests or plans. Include this information:
    • Was artificial intelligence used in the production of images or text for this entry (Yes/No). If yes, what was produced using artificial intelligence?
  • Page 2: Project Description, one page of text (maximum 500 words - no images). Include specific plant varieties, colors, numbers and plan for ongoing maintenance. In addition, include the rationale for the plantings and placement suggested
  • Page 3-5: Images - up to 3 pages with project images (multiple images can be placed on each image page). Each image can include a 25-word maximum optional caption. You can include short labels (place names, legends, etc.) but not paragraphs of text.
  • Include a page footer with your last name(s) and the Project Name.
  • Submissions shall be less than 10Mb in PDF format. The PDF file only needs to be screen resolution (96 dpi) for the jury to review.

All submissions must be submitted by Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 11:59 PM

Award Notification

The person(s) submitting the winning design will be notified by March 31, 2025. Then let the planting begin!
