Information for Job Candidates

BEFORE THE FAIR – REGISTER AND REVIEW:

To register for the Utah Statewide Teacher Fair you must:
1. Be qualified to teach in the public schools – be a student teacher or a currently licensed teacher. (Licensed school counselors and speech pathologists/audiologists are also welcome.)

2.  Pay a non-refundable pre-registration fee of $5.00 at a Utah university/college career services center. (Or, you can pay $10.00 at the door on the day of the fair.) This fee helps cover expenses of the Utah Statewide Teacher Fair. You will be given an admission name tag when you register that will admit you into the fair. If you have pre-registered, you must bring your admission name tag with you to the fair, or you will be charged again at the door.

DAY OF THE FAIR – ARRIVE EARLY AND READY:

How to Get to the Fair and where to park:
In Salt Lake City, go east on 100 South towards the University of Utah. After 1460 East, 100 South turns into North Campus Drive. Follow the Parking Signs for Teachers and Recruiters. (There is a reserved lot for Teachers to park in for free. Only School District Recruiters will receive validations for parking in the visitor's parking lot.) You can walk or take the free shuttle from the reserved lot for teachers to the Union Building.

Please dress professionally and be on time. Wear comfortable shoes!

You will want to bring copies of your resume to give to prospective employers. If you must make more copies at the fair, there is a copy center in the Union Building – one level down from the fair. Credential / Placement files will not be given to the recruiters the day of the fair.  If you have set up a credential/placement file at your career center, the file can be sent later at the request of the school districts – or by your request.

Note: There is a food court in the Union Building – one level down from the fair.

Interview

While some districts will be at the fair to hand out information only, most districts will be interviewing. There are two types of interviewing:

Pre-scheduled interviews with some districts can be made directly with the recruiters,
Thursday, March 8 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. for times later in the day. Make sure you attend all pre-scheduled interviews you sign up for! We will be checking with the recruiters at the end of the day to determine if any teachers have missed pre-scheduled interviews. Necessary follow-up measures will be taken.

Non-scheduled interviews with some districts will be on a first-come, first-serve basis on
Thursday, March 8. Interviews will be held from 9:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8. Understand that even the first-come, first-serve interview slots fill up quickly, so you must be prepared and come early. Review How to Succeed at the Utah Statewide Teacher Fair and the See who's coming list (which explains which kind and how many schedules each district plans to have). Note: This list is constantly being updated, so double-check it just before the fair. Even then, districts may have last-minute changes the day of the fair.

After 9:00 a.m. on the day of the fair, you may check with the information desk white board to find out if any school districts have canceled or have been added to the list of those attending. Also check for additional majors the districts may want to interview.

Utah university/college career services centers staff members will be available at the fair to answer questions for you.

AFTER THE FAIR – FOLLOW-UP:

Make sure districts you interviewed with receive your credential / placement file from your university/college career services center (if you've established a file with the center) or from you directly and that you have filled out all necessary applications and paperwork.

Remember names of the people you interviewed with and if possible, send thank-you cards. (Obtain recruiter contact info. at the fair or check the district’s website.)
