What is a credential file?

A credential file (sometimes called a placement file) contains letters of recommendation, resumes, transcripts, and other related items which are sent to potential employers or graduate programs as part of the application procedure.

Why would I need a credential file?

You need to create a credential file if you are planning to apply for any of the following:

1. Graduate school

2. A teaching position in early childhood, elementary, secondary, or higher education

3. An Internship which requires letters of recommendation and transcripts

4. A career job which requires letters of recommendation and transcripts

What is a Non-confidential (open) file?

Non-confidential (open) files:

1)  Are self-managed by students

2)  Contain materials that students ARE allowed to view, including:

  • Cover Letters
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • Non-confidential Letters of Recommendation
  • Unofficial Transcripts (issued to students by the Transcripts Office)
  • Personal Statements
  • Writing Samples
  • Teaching Evaluations
  • Certifications
  • Other Non-confidential Application Materials
