WHAT CAN I DO WITH MIDDLE EAST STUDIES?
What Can I Do With This Major?
- Teachers of foreign languages, culture & literature
- Teaching certification is required for public school teaching and preferred but not required for private schools. A Master’s degree is required to teach in community colleges, and a Doctorate is required to teach at colleges and universities.
- Translators/Interpreters (investigate a Master’s degree in T & I at the Monterey Institute of International Studies) and read more about translator and interpreter opportunities in the Career Library
- If you do NOT wish to use a foreign language as a primary skill in your career choice, you might consider a variety of entry-level management opportunities in business working for companies such as Walgreen’s, Target, Ferguson Enterprises, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Goldman Sachs, Fidelity Investments and many other companies which recruit “well-rounded” skilled graduates with any major.
- If you are willing to relocate, you might investigate opportunities to work for the Federal Government. We have books in the Career Library to help students explore and apply for U. S. Government careers. Consider positions such as Intelligence Specialists, Writers/Editors, Public Affairs Specialists, Language Analysts (National Security Agency), Special Agent Linguists or Contract Linguists (FBI).
- Middle East Studies provides a foundation for pursuing advanced degrees to qualify for executive positions in international business or banking, international trade, international law, or leadership positions in international non-profit organizations or educational exchange programs. The Career Library has resources to help you plan graduate study leading to international jobs. We recommend that you begin with the book, International Jobs-Where They Are-How To Get Them to start thinking about specific careers and employers.
